The Jungle Theatre Company (JTC) began performing theatre in South Africa in 1995 under the name of Jungle Performance. It’s roots lie in the transformational period of South Africa’s history. Jungle felt the need to be a part of this dynamic time and contribute to the new SA by creating integrated theatre that was accessible to all.

Jungle Performance introduced the universally accessible mediums of music, mime, puppetry, juggling and storytelling into their early performances and these have become characteristic elements of Jungle’s performance style over the years. Through this, the company realized how a large and interactive audience of mixed backgrounds could be gathered to be a part of Jungle’s dream.

In the years since its’ beginning, Jungle Theatre Company (renamed in 2002) has performed many different shows at a variety of venues, including; parties, festivals, site-specific venues, townships, schools and theatres. Many of these shows have been supported by the likes of the Foundation for Creative Arts, the National Arts Council, the Dutch Embassy, the City of Cape Town, The Green Trust and Abalimi Bezekhaya.

The current directors of JTC, Vincent Meyburgh and Stuart Palmer, both carry years of theatrical experience with them.

Vincent graduated from UCT Drama Department in 1993 and was a founder member of Jungle Performance in 1995. He has performed both locally and internationally, from Grahamstown to Amsterdam. His experiences include film, television, street and conventional theatre and music. His insatiable passion for performing keeps him, and those around him, constantly motivated and creative.

Stuart has been actively involved in theatre workshops and performances since 1980. His calling became a profession when he joined JTC in 2000. He attended a camera-acting course at City Varsity in 2001. His experiences also include film, television, street and conventional theatre. His lifelong passion for the theatre and his inherent business sense add a fundamental part to the drive behind JTC.
Both Vincent and Stuart run creative drama workshops for children and adults.
