:: EDITORS NOTE ::

This month we're focused on the SA music artist's arena. Of course its Women's Day on Thursday the 9th of August 2007, and so to kick things off let me first say, happy Women's Day to all the ladies of SA's music industry. From those behind the scenes to those in the limelight, you are fundamentally important to the SA music scene, full stop.

To celebrate Women's Day we have pulled out four stories from the MIO vault, all profiles of some of SA music's leading ladies over the past years. From the gospel giant, Rebecca Malope to the all rounder, Louise Carver to the soulful Simphiwe Dana to the all-girl punk outfit, Japan and I, these stories show that the girls do it as good as the guys.

We're also taking a look at someone new to the music industry, another powerful female artist who goes by the name of Zonke. She has just contributed to the potentially massive hit, ‘All in the way' with the international house music guru, Frank Roger, and has worked with other SA music greats such as Joe Nina and Wendy Mseleku. Read her story to find out why we hope she's going to be around for a long time.

Staying on the topic of great SA music artists, Oppikoppi's Way Of the Dassie festival for 2007 is happening from the 9th to 12th of August. "MIO spoke to one of the festival's founding fathers, Carel Hoffman, about the beast that is Oppikoppi today, and the battles involved in securing international talent while staving off bankruptcy"as quoted by Craig Wilson who conducted the interview.
