Songs and Tales under African Skies take to the road as they perform at Gauteng Libraries

The National Children’s Theatre Trust (NCTT) is staging “Songs and Tales Under African Skies”, a fabulous interactive musical for children, aiming to cultivate an awareness of environmental issues as well as a love for Africa and her many cultures.
Four Johannesburg boys, aged between seven and 10, have been chosen to share the role of Chip in the forthcoming South African stage production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

A sprinkling of Disney magic is in the Joburg air at the moment, after the international creative team touched down over the weekend to oversee rehearsals for the local stage production of Beauty and the Beast.
The all-South African cast started rehearsing in LinbroPark yesterday, in preparation for the grand opening of this captivating family musical at Montecasino’s Teatro in October. It moves to Artscape in Cape Town in January 2009, before embarking on an overseas tour.
The Plaasteater has found a new venue due to golf estate developments on our current premises. We are moving to the Hazendal wine farm just a bit further down on the Bottelary road. Hazendal Wine Estate is one of the major sponsors for the Annual Jazz Festival and we look forward to a great partnership with them! We will be closed for the next month for renovations.
South Africa is greatly privileged to have Roelof Colyn and Jonothan Roxmouth back on stage with their jaw-dropping performance A HANDFUL OF KEYS. 750 shows and 250 000 spectators later, it isn’t at all surprising that this show is labeled South Africa’s most successful two-hander review!

Top youth performers in the arts were rewarded at the fifth annual National Eisteddfod Academy Awards which took place recently at the ProMusica Theatre in FloridaPark.
The National Eisteddfod Academy Awards was established in 2004 to address the need for a single prestigious platform where the best young performers in music, dance and drama could compete and showcase their talents.
At the eleventh hour – literally as the contents of the Catalina Theatre was being packed away in boxes – Rainbow Chicken has agreed to resolve the financial predicament and to make the appropriate payments to landlord Ithala to keep the theatre open.
The Playhouse Company is currently devising its artistic plans for 2009/10 and invites arts practitioners to submit for consideration proposals for stage productions in the areas of dance, drama and music.
