Chris Chameleon first exploded onto the South African stage not as a musician, but as a young actor in 1989 winning South Africa's largest national acting competition. He spent the ensuing 5 years performing in more than 20 television series, as well as being the lead vocalist and bassist for the eclectic band Blue Chameleon.

Vocalist, Rock, Acoustic

Blue Chameleon was one of the few uncompromisingly original bands in South Africa during the early nineties. The band toured the country with their lavish brand of alternative rock and new wave blues and eventually released their debut album titled "Blue Chameleon." Blue Chameleon came to an end early in 1995 and Chris Chameleon went from opening for Roxette in front of a stadium packed with 57,000 to working overseas with a Dutch theatre company in Holland.

He returned to South Africa in 1996 where he spent two years behind the scenes as an assistant director for both South African and international television productions. At the end of 1997 the allure of the spotlight seduced him back to the stage, this time as the frontman of one of South Africa's proudest musical exports, the monki punk band "Boo!" .

In 7 years Boo! performed 800 gigs in 17 countries, in places all over the USA and even Hungary and Croatia. Boo!'s music seemed to have a timeless and culturally boundless quality to it, which enabled the band to appeal to all the countries they visited, always being invited to return. Boo! performed at many European and American festivals with the likes of theWhite Stripes, Limp bizkit, Slipknot, Franz Ferdinand, Cypress Hill, Coldplay and in venues such as the Paradiso in Amsterdam, the Backstage in Beverly Hills and Boarderline in London. The band also received a South African Music Award in 2002 for "Best Pop Album."

Boo! disbanded in 2004 giving Chameleon the opportunity to go solo and explore his South African roots by releasing the critically acclaimed "Ek Herhaal Jou" ("I repeat you") a composition of iconic 60's poet Ingrid Jonker's poetry. "Ek Herhaal Jou" was nominated for a South African Music Award in the Best Adult Contemporary Afrikaans Album category and has reached gold status in South Africa.

2006 saw the simultaneous release of his first English solo rock album, "Shine", an album that is loaded with power, passion and beautiful melodies, and a second Afrikaans album, "7 de Hemel" which consists of songs performed by the versatile Chameleon as the popular character Liam in the nation's favourite SABC 2 soap opera "7 de Laan". "7de Hemel" reached platinum status within its first 2 months of release and "Shine" is currently making its way up the radio charts. Chameleon also received a Huisgenoot Tempo Award for "Favourite Contemporary Artist" 2006"as well as two Vonk Awards for"Best Male Artist 2005" and "Best Male Album" Ek Herhaal Jou."

Chris Chameleon won two MK89 Awards in February 2007 for the BEST SOLO and SEXIEST categories. Mk89 is South Africa's first video channel on DSTV and the winners were determined by public vote. According to Mk89, Chris Chameleon's votes by far exceeded other popular nominees including Arno Carstens and Karen Zoid in the BEST SOLO category.

The single "Anywhere" from album "Shine" was entered for the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) and reached the semi-finals in February.

If the last year is anything to go by, Chris Chameleon seems set to become one of the most important artists in recent years. Innovative, prolific and endlessly creative, Chris Chameleon is set to take the world by storm!
