Dan Shout is a freelance saxophonist and keyboardist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Shout studied clarinet, piano and saxophone at South African College School (SACS) were he matriculated from in 1998.

Shout commenced his studies of Classical Clarinet and Jazz Saxophone at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town in 1999. Whilst he read his Bachelors of Music he performed with The Mike Campbell Big Band, The Cape Town Jazz Orchestra, the Standard Bank South African National Youth Bands (2002-2005), Mike McCullagh, The Spier Summer Orchestra, The Darryl Andrews Band, The VJR Big Band and Cape Town Funk phenomenon, Golliwog. Whilst Dan performed in these bands he had the opportunity to work along side legendary South African and International musicians such as Winston Mankunku, Gloria Bosman, Carlo Mombelli, Darius Brubeck and Ron McCurdy.

He completed his Masters Degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance from the University of Cape Town in June 2006 graduating Cum Laude and has been touring with the Johnny Clegg Band since playing saxophone and keyboards.

Dan has performed abroad in France, England, Germany, Switzerland, Corsica, Hungary, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Canada, Tunisia, Morocco, Luxembourg, Dubai, U.S.A., Seychelles and the French West Indies. Some of his highlights have included performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague (2004), The I.A.J.E. Conference in Long Beach, California (2005), the 2006 Soccer World Cup in Germany, the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, Nelson Mandela's 46664 Concert at Ellis Park (2007) and performing for Bastille Day in Bastille, Paris (2007) to over 100 000 people.

Dan has established himself as one of the stalwarts of the South African House Music scene having played at almost every major House club in Cape Town and Johannesburg such as Bang Bang Club, Fez, Hemisphere, Ignite, Delux, 88 Lounge and Carfax to name a few. Shout regularly performs with South Africa’s hottest House DJ’s such as Shaun Duvet, DJ Fresh and Leighton Moody. Dan has also performed several times with DJ Charl Chaka at Dubai's hottest House clubs including Trinity at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort.

In 2008 Dan is a featured guest with various groups around the country such as The Rudimentals, the Mike Campbell Big Band and the Mother City Jazz Orhestra. Shout continues to tour internationally in 2008 with the Johnny Clegg Band and performs Jazz and House Music whilst at home in Cape Town.
