Genre: Pop Homepage: www.myspace.com/shaunvsa ![]() Shaun V has enjoyed a meteoric rise in South Africa’s Music Industry and was lauded in January 2007 by People Magazine as “An Artist to look out for in 2007”!Starting performing professionally at just 20 years of age, Shaun is best known for his appearances on many stages countrywide as part of the high profile Boy Band, Hi-5, of which he was a member for 3 years. During that period 2002-2005, Hi-5 received many achievements including Crescendo Winners (2003), Africa Vision Winners (2004) and winning the GMT Best Music Video Award (2005). Shaun left Hi-5 in January 2006 in order to follow a Solo Career and was immediately snapped up by Showtime Management Theatre Company to be a part of the international hit musical Production, “We Will Rock You” where he was understudy to the lead role, Galileo. The show opened to rave reviews in May 2006 and toured around the country until October 2006. Shaun ended 2006 by enjoying a spate of sold out gigs in Gauteng with his band and then went on to wow audiences as a frontline vocalist in “Rock Me Amadeus” in Durban. Shaun spent a big portion of his time in 2007 being involved in the nationwide Variety HUG-A-THON Campaign. He was billed as “the voice of the campaign” as his original track, “This Love Could Be”, was used for the Charity’s Television Advertising Campaign. Shaun donated all rights of this song to Variety, for the duration of the campaign. ![]() The remainder of 2007 saw Shaun back on stage as one of the lead characters, Roger, in the international Broadway hit production, “Rent”, which opened to rave reviews in Johannesburg on 17th July 2007. It also visited Cape Town and audiences in both cities raved about Shaun’s portrayal of this character. His performance so impressed US Director Anthony Rapp, he was later invited to New York in October 2007 to meet and audition for RENT in front of the Broadway directors. Sadly the Broadway production later announced (in January 2008) that RENT will be closing on Broadway on 1st June 2008, thus not giving Shaun the opportunity to perform in this show on Broadway. Shaun is currently enjoying a 6-month international tour of Asia with the South African cast of “We Will Rock You”, where he reprises his role of understudy to the lead, Galileo and is getting phenomenal responses from the Asian audiences each time he performs the role. The tour is currently in Seoul, Korea until the end of February 2008, and will then move on to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok, with the tour ending in July 2008. ![]() Shaun V was approached recently to put his voice to the track “I’m not human” – the central love theme in the upcoming local film, BAKGAT! The song will also be released to all local radio stations and the music video will be released to all television stations on 14th March 2008. The movie opens nationwide to the general public on 11th April 2008. Upcoming Gigs for Shaun V Add as favourites (19) | Quote this article on your site
