The HA!Man (Francois le Roux) is back in Kloof, having performed in the area with great acclaim in the past. Unique - perhaps in the world - for his extraordinary improvisation skills and combination of cello and electronics, not to mention the presence of Africa in his classically grounded musical style - he has made a name for himself over the past 15 years as one of SA’s export products. The HA! in “HA!Man” is an expression of immediate feeling, as improvisation implies. With Francois, however, the spontaneous music is of such a developed nature that you can easliy believe it is composed by some famous composer. It has been his stated aim, since embarking on his independent career, to prove that music that flows from the heart does not need to stand back for music that has been crafted in a composer’s study. Audiences the world over affirm that he succeeds in giving fresh credence to this neglected art, as his music speaks to young and old, the musically uneducated and the “fundis.” Of course, he has trouble “selling” his performances, because of preconceived ideas people have about “cello,” “spontaneous,” and “electronic backings.” What makes it even more difficult, is that his music does not fit any one existing style or genre, but many. Those who have experienced him break no bones about the fact that his playing is highly entertaining, inspiring, brilliant in technique and even ground breaking (he also includes the keyboard/piano, recorder, ocarinas, “cello drumming,” dancing and singing). Yet, this they only discover after hearing him. This piece of writing is suppose to entice you actually attend, but words have only so much it can convey about an utterly emotive and transportive event. Quote an audience member from Dallas: “I personally rate this as one of my "mountain top" musical experiences, which I bracket with meeting and hearing Dizzy Gillespie and witnessing Count Basie and Oscar Peterson on the stage together at the Royal Festival Hall. His act (I do not know if I should call it that) is mind blowing, for which I can not find adequate words.” Consider that he has 15 years of experience behind him, from playing on the streets right up to the Royal Albert Hall in London, that he has honed his art acoustically for eight years before he introduced electronics, that his career has grown to the point where he is now performing up to 200 times a year over four continents, have recorded over 700 tracks and compiled 60 albums, including spontaneous collaborations with artists like Derek Gripper (guitar) and Paul Hanmer (piano). You can read in his bio at www.hamanworld.com about his numerous accomplishments, both as child prodigy and as professional, from prestigious appointments as musical director, to soundtrack cimmissions to a cover photo on Space Magazine (Namibia, March 2007)! The influential De Kat Magazine has listed him as one of the leading Afrikaans personalities in South Africa today. Qoute Dr Bruce Copley, international specialist in creative thinking: ““I consider Francois Le Roux to be one in a million. He is without question a musical genius and able to combine his music with high levels of dance, mime and drama. He is also a gifted teacher and facilitator of group processes and his work creates unforgettable and inspiring experiences.” Add as favourites (50) | Quote this article on your site
