New Altum started about just over a year ago over a friendly chat between Jaques & Rasheed. Soon what started out as a vision quickly transformed itself and forced it's way into reality. Before we knew it all the band members were together and bouncing ideas and vision around. Since then we've had the 'always' unfortunate task of changing band members. We're still humbly grateful for the time and effort they put in, but we also know that everything happens for a reason. visit them at www.myspace.com/newaltumband Screemo, Emo
The band at the moment is currently, "Rasheed"(24) on vocals, Jaques(23) on vocals and guitar, Rob(20) on bass, Donovan(22) on guitar and Nic(22) on drums. All the members are X-members of previous bands as well. Rasheed was part of 5 Star Society, Jaques was part of Not Guilty, Rob was part of One Way Out, Donovan was part of Impropriety and Nic was part of Serving Suggestion. The name "Altum" is derived from latin origin which means "Depth", so basically "New Depth". The name itself isn't just for trying to be differents sake but rather a moral standing in each one of our lives. Our goal is to try our utmost in going deeper in moral values as well as pushing ourselves harder to squeeze every ounce of musical creativity out of us and also, to raise the standard of humility verses "Rock Star" attitudes! To have individual aspirations for us wouldnt at all be different from one another, but as a band our main aspiration is to an influence!. Music is a vessel....for us....."A vessel of Hope". To be a positive influence in a negative world comes with it's trials, troubles and conflicts!, but still a small price to pay knowing you made a positive difference in even just one person's life. The songs we write about is predominantly about life experiences, ups 'and' downs but always points to a hopeful solution. We just feel there's way to many bands singing about there issues and problems, but when they overcome them you don't hear about the solution at the end. There's so much hurt, anger and sorrow in the world that if people were to find the good in it and share it, it would be like a candle in a dark room. That would be our aspiration in a nut shell. The spectrum of our musical influences are quite broad really. Bands than mainly influence us are: Underoath, He is Legend, My Chemical Romance, Thrice, Story of the year, Thursday, Muse, The Used, Blindside, Rage Against the Machine, Demon Hunter, Linkin Park, Project 86, The Mars Volta, The Narrow, Tonight We Die, Funeral For A Friend, The Juliana Theory and the list goes on...! We dont try and go for a particular sound when we write music but rather concentrate on freedom of expression. We feel as we do that we end up developing our own sound anyway. We do try and create a good balance between melody and heavyness (Screaming) vocally. Good selling points on the band are definately our merchandise, presentation of logos (corporate identification) and also the use of samples during performances mixed with energetic stage presence & atire. We believe in the entire production and not just the music. People want to be entertained at the end of the day, so we try and hit as many of the senses as we can. Hopefully our audience feel like they've experienced something after a show and not just heard something.Upcoming Gigs for New Altum Add as favourites (43) | Quote this article on your site
