In August 2005, Port Elizabeth (South Africa) Jared Gunston met Matthew Engelbrecht at college. Both being in a previous band before, it seemed an obvious decision to get together and see what develops. Day 1 & 2 started with old school riffs and by day 3 things were going well and started putting together what would later become the track “Forbidden”. Adrian, a long time friend of Jared joined the band as drummer after hearing the new material and this became the core and birth of the band CHROMIUM. The band started playing live in December 2005, Chromium performed their first showcase at “ROCK YOUR MIND 5, for a first show they had a full house and rocked it to the floor. It was obvious from this moment on that the band had a lot of potential and carried on to perform more shows, sharing the stage with acts such as “Forever Will Burn” at Witchfest Cape Town 2006 & “Ashton Nyte”.

After getting a lot of interest for a track called “Set Me Free” which was sent out as a free track on the internet the band caught the interest of Johannesburg based record label ALTER EGO that immediately saw the potential of the band.

November 2006, CHROMIUM relocates to Johannesburg. In this time they also received an Endorsement from Hughes & Kettner, one of the best amplification brands of all time. Adrian decides to become the bassist and therefore this left the band without a drummer. After 2 auditions for a new drummer, they met up with Hannes Matthysen and were impressed with his abilities and musical background. The line up was now complete. The band in conjunction with Alter Ego Records went to work finishing the debut album ‘Intro Spectre’.

I just want to comment on the band Chromium. They are undoubtedly one of the best upcoming band. The quality of the cd's and recording are exceptional. They don't even sound South-African. That's how good the music and recording and producing is. The band members are also very talented and have indeed mastered the art of playing their instruments well. The guys from Chromium are not stuck up and don't think that their s.... don't stink. They mingel and talk to all their fans. With their new release they have had alot of press coverage and have been booked for an overseas tour next year. Now we all know if you're not a flippen awesum band that will never happen. Please play more Chromium. We need to support more South-African bands. Play and Play and play some more Chromium.
