The Rockford is what you have been waiting for. Just like Trivial Pursuit, The Rockford was born over a couple of beers in a kitchen. Except these particular Benoni beer-drinkers knew they weren’t on just any ol’ wild goose chase. The Rockford would become the place to be. Music that you love, music that you dance to, music that you sing to, music that you may never have heard before, and certainly the music you grew up with. Spanning over 5 decades, this music comes from the medium we have all come to love, called Vinyl.

Vinyl?

LPs, records, 7inches, spintheblackcircle, the black spot (Out Damn Spot!), The Round Ring of Revolution, any plastic made by polymerizing a compound containing the vinyl group, esp. polyvinyl chloride, 12inches, gramophone record, a thin plastic disc carrying recorded sound in grooves on each surface, for reproduction by a record-player, die Swart Plaat, Plastic Passion.

Need we say more?

Yes. We need. We need speak of The East. That is i.e. in other words, per se, Benoni/Boksburg. Having spent years of our misspent youth and misspent young adulthood and misspent last week Saturday night travelling to doer-en-gone and back again, just to listen to good tunes, we are now bringing it here. And when we say “here”, we mean i.e. in other words, per se, Benoni/Boksburg.

Or is that Boksburg/Benoni?

This activity we are engaging in is nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s perfectly natural. To dance to “Lady Madonna”, then “Black Hole Sun”, then “Dirty Diana” and sing the words loudly, so loud. Oh so loud. The veins will pop out of your neck like caterpillars underneath your shiny new Silver Corsa’s tyres. And then, only then, will you realise how grateful you are that you didn’t buy a Navaro, because the wheels cost R400 000. Each. On sale.
