Barry started playing drums as a 10 year old, as accompanyist to his piano playing dad! Since then, he graduated from the Musicians Institute of Technology, Hollywood, California with an honours in performance. He has lectured in the music departments of Cape Town University, Wits University JHB, and Pretoria Technikon. Barry joined the Johnny Clegg band in 1999. At the time he was touring in Europe with Oliver Mtikudzi's band "Mahube". He's been a member of Johnny 's band ever since, touring extensively in Europe, North America, Asia and the UK. The 1995/6 world tours started in France and ended in Australia/New Zealand and JHB. Highlights included: - guest performances with Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant and Brian May. - headlining the 46664 05 concerts in George, SA and Tromso, Norway. - opening the Montreal jazz fest to an audience of 125 000 people. - summerfest in Florida with Jimmy Buffet guesting. - double bill shows with Lenny Kravitz, the Neville Brothers and Taj Mahal. Barry records and tours with a variety of artists in between the Johnny Clegg Band schedule. Some recent credits include: - Arno Carsten's two solo albums (Sony SA) - The new Johnny Clegg album "One Life" - The soundtrack for the 2006 Oscar winning movie "Tsotsi" - The grammy nominated Ladysmith Black Mambazo album "No Frontiers" - The new "Black" album "Between Two Churches" - The new album by Theuns Jordaan , SA's biggest selling recording artist for 2006. - Tribal Beatz , a collabration project for ARC Records Europe - The new Johnny Clegg Band "Greatest Hits Live" DVD. He also records and tours with the Robin Auld Band.
