The Orpheus Ensemble, featuring Matthew Reid, Victor Tichart and David Snaith, will perform at the Pick n Pay Chamber Music Breakfast Concert at Kirstenbosch on 17 August.Having graduated from UCT, Matthew Reid (clarinet) continued his studies at the Royal College of Music. He performs throughout South Africa as a soloist and chamber musician and directs the Balkan Band and the annual Yiddish Song Festival. David Snaith (viola) studied at the Royal College of Music and held solo-viola positions in orchestras in England and Belgium before joining the CAPAB orchestra as principal viola. He was Head of Strings at the Beau Soleil Music Centre and currently leads the viola section of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. Victor Tichart is a teacher, concert accompanist and chamber musician and is well-known in Cape Town opera and choral circles as the accompanist of the Philharmonia Choir. The Orpheus Ensemble, featuring (l-r) David Snaith, Victor Tichart and Matthew Reid, will perform at the Pick n Pay Chamber Music Breakfast Concert at Kirstenbosch on 17 AugustFor their Kirstenbosch performance, the Orpheus Ensemble will present Mozart’s seldom-heard ‘Kegelstatt’ trio (K498 in Eflat), Bruch’s Eight Pieces Op 83 and some Ukrainian melodies and Klezmer tunes. The Kirstenbosch Tea Room will serve a sumptuous “stand up” (limited seating available) breakfast buffet before the concert. (Breakfast served from 09h30-10h45, concert from 11h00-12h00). Tickets cost R140 which includes breakfast and garden entry (Botanical Society members pay R120). Tickets can be purchased at the Kirstenbosch Ticket Office or telephonically on 021 761 2866 (an administration fee of R10 applies if booking telephonically). Seating is unreserved.
